Want to host your stories and archives on HPMCA and contribute to the making and preserving of Harlem's culture? The submitted content will add to the shared histories of Harlem. The HPMCA is designed to host, not own the rights to, Harlem archival content.
Contribute with your scrapbooks, flyers, photos, agendas and meeting minutes, artworks, home videos, journal entries, poetry, family archives, music and audio recordings, stories, memories, and more.

What are subjects?Subjects are the categories of information you can add to your contribution. For example, if you're submitting a photo, you might tag it with subjects like "Familial Heritage," "125th Street," "Community," or "Fashion." Need an example? Explore our archive.
What permissions do I grant by sharing?
All contributions are licensed under the Creative Commons license “CC BY-NC-SA.” The “BY” means that in any use of your materials, credit must be given to you, the creator of the material. The “NC” means that only noncommercial use of your work is permitted. Noncommercial means not primarily intended for or directed towards commercial advantage or monetary compensation. The “SA” means that adaptations (such as remixes) must be shared under the same terms.
If you would like to contribute granting different permissions, please include this in the “Notes” field of your submission.
What do I do if I believe my CC-licensed work has been misused?
Creative Commons licenses are legal tools, and Creative Commons offers a guide for creators who find that someone is infringing the CC license on their works. This guide is available at https://creativecommons.org/misuse-of-works/.
How does the Harlem Place, Memory & Culture Archive identify and treat sensitive data?
The HPMCA encourages contributors to consider their particular positionalities and vulnerabilities with regard to these (and potentially other) sensitivity-producing sources. Following the adage “we keep us safe,” the HPMCA stewards will work with contributors, or refer contributors to better-equipped support systems, to account for their safety and well-being in light of structural vulnerabilities.
Contributors may request that materials be removed, redacted, or annotated at any time by contacting harlemdigitalarchive@gmail.com, and HPMCA stewards will honor such requests, in accordance with the values of the HPMCA.
